The nature of the church determines its structure.
The church is a flock (John 10:1-30), therefore it is cared
for and led by shepherds (John 21:16-17). At NKBC, this function is
carried out by the pastors and deacons (equivalent to elders in some
other churches).
The church is a body, not a business (Romans 12:4-6); an organism,
not an organization. In an organization, "maintenance" becomes the focus.
But in an organism, ministry is the focus. At NKBC, we have a simple
structure so we can maximize Ministry and minimize Maintenance, in which the
people are the Ministers and the pastors are the Administers.
The church is a fellowship, in which a top priority is harmony and
unity. (Ephesians 4:3, Romans 14:19) Therefore, a good structure promotes
unity and downplays differences. (I Corinthians 11:17-18) Because
church-wide voting tends to create division, NKBC has a council structure
wherein the various councils and ministries make most of their own decisions
instead of having everyone vote on them. There are 6 councils which
correspond to the purposes of our church (Worship: Worship Council;
Instruction: Christian Education Council; Fellowship:
Fellowship and Deaconess Councils; and Evangelism: Missions Council),
as well as Stewardship of our financial and physical resources.
Our constitution sets out the basics of our governance structure:
deacons, pastors and six councils. Each council reports to the Deacon Board,
who are accountable to the congregation and ultimately to the Word of God,
our final authority. Council chairs are recommended by a Nominating
Committee and voted on by the congregation; council members are chosen by
each council and are people who are actively involved in ministry or
leadership in that specific ministry area.
A chart
of our church structure is available to view as a PDF file
here or
alternately as a

It shows our council structure, names of council chairs, church deacons and
staff. Please contact the church office if you would like to talk with
anyone in church leadership.
