What is a Small Group? It is a group of individuals who
meet together on a regular basis.
What is the purpose of a Small Group? It is designed to
connect people in meaningful relationships to experience and model an
authentic biblical community.
Why join a Small Group? Here are a few of the many
reasons. You will grow in your understanding of the Bible, develop deeper
friendships, be supported in times of crisis and change, have a natural way to
share Christ with friends, and be living out the New Testament church of Acts
2.
Small groups take many forms in order to meet the varied needs and levels
of maturity of our church. Some groups emphasize a structured discipleship
process for growing believers; others revolve around service and ministry.
Many groups grow out of a common interest or activity. New groups are created
as leaders emerge and needs are identified.
The Benefits of Small Groups The idea of small groups
is not a new one. For nearly two thousand years Christians have been meeting
together in small groups to study the bible, share meals, care for one another
and pray together. Men and women have discovered a closeness to God and to
others and their lives have been transformed because of their involvement with
small groups of Christians.
If you're not quite convinced about why you would need something besides
the Sunday services, read on! And even if you're already connected to a group,
you can always use an encouragement or a reminder, right?
On Sundays, you will no longer feel like a stranger in the crowd. You'll
feel connected in spite of the large number of strangers around you. Building
relationships in a small group is one of the first steps to making the faces
recognizable!
Your small group will be a great support for your journey of life. Your
small group can become like family-a "home" away from home. As you build
relationships in your small group, you'll find that you won't want to stand
alone any longer.
You will be challenged to grow spiritually in a small group. Because of the
nature of a small group, you will probably receive encouragement and
challenges by group members. This is a great place to put yourself. It is
within this face-to-face context that you can be sharpened spiritually ("as
iron sharpens iron"), as well as receive constant encouragement for your
spiritual growth.
You will be able to make a difference in others' lives. When we merely
receive from others, we can enjoy only half of what Christian life can offer.
Life can be much fuller only when we begin to use our spiritual gifts (God-given strengths) to serve God and others. When you simply
respond to real needs of real people in your small group, you can make a
difference in their lives by showing how God has uniquely shaped you.
We have several small groups in action! Our groups always have an empty
chair for you. Some feel awkward going to a group that is already going. We
understand...and would challenge you to go anyway ...take the opportunity to
begin building friendships...you have a lifetime to absorb God's Word!
