NKBC Membership,
The Worship Council would like to thank your taking the time to look over the update on the sanctuary upgrade. With the update and install a mere 4 week away we wanted to remind you of the scope of the project and the details. It is our hope that this letter will help answer any questions you might have. If at anytime you still have unanswered questions please feel free to call or email the Worship Council, Deacon board or the NKBC Staff.
There are several challenges that we face in our current Sanctuary layout. Please allow me to address them individually.
New Projectors, Screens and Accessories:
- Current placement of the single screen does not allow optimal viewing of the screen for the congregation. The two support beams in the Sanctuary also obstruct additional seats. Taking into consideration these obstructions we have proposed removing the middle screen and replacing it with two screens on either side of the stage. This configuration will help us gain about 20 seats that are currently blocked.
- With the upgraded screens we will also be upgrading the projectors. The new projectors will be brighter and higher resolution to improve the impact of videos, sermon slides, worship backgrounds and keep us current with high definition formats that have become the standard in the media industry.
The use of multimedia in our services will help us to be more accessible and relevant to our culture. When we use the term “culturally relevant” we want to make sure we clearly define this term. In our worship services we strive to use common technology, communication, dress, music and even food to effectively relate to the geographical area in which we live. What we don’t mean by culturally relevant is that we compromise right and wrong, true and false and wink at sin. We believe that God’s word is the ultimate truth and the moral compass that guides our decisions.
Lighting, Light Control Board and Accessories:
In keeping with our mission to reach the people of Poulsbo, Kingston, Hansville, Bainbridge and the surrounding Kitsap peninsula we also want to address the impact of the sermon and minimizing distractions that cause us to lose focus. We want to use lights to help not only with drama and special events but also for our weekly worship service. Let me address some of the challenges with our current lighting.
- Current lighting is not bright enough to adequately light the stage. And we don’t have the ability to change the color, focus or control the lights at different time during the service. God made our eyes to be attracted to light. Whatever is brighter will draw our attention. By focusing our lighting we draw attention to the sermon, drama, video testimony and increase the effectiveness of our services for Christ!
- We will be proposing the purchase of the first round of lighting to address this issue, along with the purchase of a light board to control light.
- When we put on a production like Christmas dessert we have to rent lighting equipment to handle the lighting needs. With our new lighting system we will not have to rent lights any longer.
- The ambient light from the windows needs to be controlled so as not to wash out the projector screens or distract from the sermon, worship, drama or video. As we install lighting we plan to address this concern with the installation of blinds or another suitable option.
- We are planning on using LED colored stage lights. This will help use save more energy and reduce maintenance on the system.
Trussing:
The trussing is the infrastructure that allows us to mount the lights, projectors and screens. The installation of the truss work is foundational for growth of our multimedia systems. As we look at in the future adding more lights and new speakers we have a mounting system in place that allows us to easily manage, maintain and replace items as needed.
Here are some of the challenges we face in our current configuration.
- There is a limited amount of space in the Sanctuary to hang lighting, projectors and screens. The installation of trussing will give us more flexibility to place lights, speakers and projectors in their optimal positions where they are easily serviced or replace.
- In our current set up we have to attach equipment directly to the church building. The proposed truss work will remove the need to use the existing structure to hold up equipment.
- The truss work is easier to reach and once items are installed there is a minimized danger in replacing lights, cleaning projectors and changing stage lights.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and we hope in has answered any question you might have. Again if you have any additional questions please feel free to call or email the Worship Council, Deacon board or the NKBC Staff.
God bless you in His service!
