Reflections - Feb. 12 & 19

Series Overview
Every one of us, if we're honest, could name at least one or two things we would change about the person we see in the mirror. For some of us, the mirror is the place where we are most critical. We see the things we are, and the things we are not. If you want to feel valuable, if you want to feel like you're worth something in this world, to feel loved, then you need to cover up some of those things you see in the mirror. You need to find a way to wear a mask so that people don't see the things you see when you look in the mirror. Unless . . . there's a better way. A way to live without the mask and see the reflection God sees.
Masks - 02/12/12
I cover up the real me in order to feel valued and loved.
Every one of us, if we’re honest, could name at least one or two things we would change about the person we see in the mirror. For some of us, the mirror is the place where we are most critical. We see the things we are, and the things we are not. We live in a world that talks about “reality,” but has very little tolerance for true reality. We want people to be genuine, but just not too genuine. And if you want to feel valuable, if you want to feel like you’re worth something in this world, to feel loved, then you need to cover up some of those things you see in the mirror. You need to find a way to wear a mask so that people don’t see the things you see when you look in the mirror. Unless . . . there’s a better way. A way to live without the mask. A way to see beyond what we see in the reflection, and see what God sees.
Uncovered - 02/19/12
Freedom is found in being the real me and living without the mask.
Most of us want to be real. Most of us want to find a place where someone loves us for who we really are, and not for who we pretend to be. But we’re just not sure where that place is. And even if we know that place is with God, that He sees us and loves us for who we are, we have a hard time believing it. We’re reluctant to live that uncovered, that exposed. But from the beginning, God made humanity with an intentionality to create something beautiful, poetic. What He sees in our reflection is much different than what we see.
